COVID-19 EMERGENCY APPEAL

Dear Supporters,

Since the launch of our appeal last week the situation in the villages which we support has worsened and the whole of Tamil Nadu is now in lockdown. Infections are steadily rising and deaths are occurring. Staff in all three of our partner organisations have been infected. What little health care facilities there are for the rural poor are completely overwhelmed. Nobody in the villages has been vaccinated apart from government officials and employees of large companies. Unemployment is now rising because of the lockdown.

The field staff of our three partner organisations are still able to visit the villages and are doing a magnificent job at considerable risk to themselves. Food and other aid is being delivered to those most in need thanks to the immediate financial response we have been able to make as a result of our appeal.

Thanks to your generosity we are sending the £24,000 you have already donated to our partners, but we anticipate that more will be needed. The outbreak in the villages has not yet peaked and the poverty brought about by the rising unemployment is yet to impact fully. We are therefore keeping our appeal open and would ask you to publicise and promote it amongst your friends and families.

We will continue to publish updates on our website and social media platforms and there will be full details in our next newsletter due at the end of the month.

We can assure you that every penny that is donated will be sent direct to India without any deductions.
