Aylesbury Balti Raises £512
November 12th saw the the seventh annual dinner in aid of Salt of the Earth at Bucks Balti House in Aylesbury. The dinner was a sell out three weeks before the night and fifty six friends of Salt of the Earth enjoyed an excellent meal. Peter Robinson, a Trustee who arranged the event, gave everyone a brief update on the SCAD projects. With a raffle and some donations from absent friends the evening raised a total of £512.10. Everyone seemed to enjoy it and said that the food was excellent. What a pleasant way to raise money!

Anne Evans held a jewellery party to raise funds for Salt of the Earth. She had never done anything like this before and she writes:
"Holding a jewellery party is a really easy way to raise funds for SOTE. I planned to hold it a few weeks before Christmas so that it would attract a few people with Christmas shopping in mind. I phoned Janet and we arranged when she would send me the Jewellery, when it arrived it was like opening a box of treasure and my daughter Ruth and I had great fun arranging the items on a display board so that they could easily be seen. I also had a few items of beads and textiles that I had bought in India which made for a variety of goods which would interest a wide range of people.
I invited friends to the party explaining that it was a fund raiser for SOTE and as many of them were aware of my trip to India volunteering at SCAD with Aid Camps International they were more than happy to come to the party and support me.
On the day I provided a few refreshments and a fellow traveller to India came along with photos of our trip on his lap top, everyone enjoyed the opportunity to have a look at the photos and see exactly where the money would be spent.
I was surprised how many people came and how the money soon added up, most people bought something be it a few beads made in the gypsy camps for £2.00 or some more expensive silver bracelets for £20.00, I think having a wide price range meant that anyone could afford something and feel they had made a contribution.
The day after the party I took the remaining jewellery to work. This went down a storm and many colleagues had an enjoyable lunch break looking through all the beautiful items and spending their hard earned cash (fortunately I synchronised it with pay day).
All in all it didn't take a lot of time to organise and I raised about £800. I am planning to hold another party this year towards the middle of November. .
Anne Walker opens her beautiful country house each year to raise funds for Salt of the Earth. There is a bric-a-brac stall, a book stall, homemade cakes for sale, a raffle and a wonderful range of cakes to have with a cup of tea plus of course an "Indian" stall. This year her event was on August 2nd and it raised £1550.
Anne's village also holds an annual food and drink festival at which Anne had an "Indian" stall selling scarves, bags, costume jewellery and silver jewellery (from Good Things From India) raising £565.
Trisha Roberts and friends from her village held a fundraising garden party on 24th of May this year. Over 60 people attended to eat, drink and spend their money on an afternoon when the sun shone for the first time in weeks! As well as food and drink, there were many stalls including bric-a -brac, plants, books, Indian jewellery/scarves/bags etc. plus a wine tombola and a raffle, The biggest hit of the day was the strawberries & cream stall which had some of the earliest English strawberries. A great time was had by all and they raised almost £900.
Trisha also had an "Indian" stall at her local village show and raised a further £160.
Jean and Keith Turner held 2 sales over a weekend - one at their daughter's house and one at their home. In total they raised over £700.

Good Things From India
A regular feature over the past few years has been the Good Things from India stalls, stocked and administered by Murray Frankland and Janet Elista. In previous years they have bought a range of beautiful silver jewellery, paper goods, silks, candles, bedspreads etc. etc. and the sale of these goods has generated sufficient funds to run the Salt of the Earth charity. Any excess profit from these stalls is sent directly to SCAD.

Although Murray and Janet have scaled down the purchasing this year, they have a wonderful range of silver jewellery, much of it incorporating semi-precious stones for sale.
For further details please contact Janet. Tel 0116 2766439 or email janetelisita@hotmail.com.
