living with leprosy

Since our founding we have supported the village that SCAD has established for people with leprosy and their families, now called Sathya Nagar. Leprosy carries a great social stigma and sufferers often disguise the symptoms for as long as possible. People with leprosy are often shunned and cast out of their families and communities, leaving begging and vagrancy as their only option for survival. This village is a life saving haven and over the years we have improved the facilities substantially and now they are second to none. In addition to housing we have provided a large community Hall, a well equipped and staffed Clinic and fresh water supplies. Each leprosy sufferer has regular medical treatment by trained staff and a monthly stipend to eliminate the need to beg.
