eye clinic

Throughout the years we have supported hundreds of eye and medical camps. These camps are organised by SCAD using Doctors who give their time for free. The camps are held in a SCAD village and patients are bussed in from the surrounding area. Glasses are available at the eye camp and those requiring cataract operations are taken to the specialist hospital in Tirunelvelli and operated on the next day. The costs for this operation is a mere £8 and we have paid for over 3,000 such operations.

We fund the Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) project which was started in 2008. This groundbreaking scheme offers diagnosis and treatment for children with physical and learning difficulties in their own village. A dedicated team of twelve specialists conduct assessment camps in villages and then devise an individually designed treatment programme for each child. Training and support is also given to the hard pressed parents. Five hundred children are on the programme and great progress is being made in helping to improve the lives of these otherwise neglected children and their families.
